Round of applause for Nova, a restaurant in the small city of Ourense with a Michelin star and a reputation for ~affordable~ fine dining. On one special Tuesday evening, Shannon, Jack, Tanner, and I went to Nova. We arrived at 9:00 p.m. when the restaurant opened and left at 12:00 a.m. when the restaurant closed. We savored every bite and had a fantastic culinary experience.
There are three choices on the menu, RAÍCES, NOVA, and CIMA ranging from 8 to 13 courses. I selected the menu: RAÍCES (roots) which had 8 courses and cost 30 euros.
bon appetit / buen provecho / enjoy
primero: snack Nova
first: snack Nova (unknown crunchy tower with some type of mousse that I have forgotten)
segundo: una ensalada de pulpo marinado y col fermentada
second: a salad of marinated octopus and fermented cabbage
tercero: yema de huevo, coliflor, consomé y tendones
third: egg yolk, cauliflower, consommé and tendons.
cuarto: el pescado del dia (bacalao)
fourth: the fish of the day (cod)
quinto: la carne de mercado
fifth: meat from the market (steak)
sexto: mora, yogur, merengue y lima
sixth: blackberry, yogurt, meringue and lime
séptimo: higo y calabaza
seventh: fig and pumpkin
octavo: malvaviscos, macarons y torta
eighth: eighth: marshmallows, macarons, and cake
also: the breads were all baked in house. there were three served. they were warm, soft, and one even had a wasabi flavor! As a table, we shared a bottle of wine, but I also ordered a gin “martini” and was brought a glass of vermouth instead. Vermouth is very popular in Galicia and Martini is a specific brand of vermouth, so the confusion was understandable.
Nova’s menu changes every week, so I will most definitely be back for another amazing culinary experience!
Thanks for reading along! Ciao!
8 courses for 30 euro? That’s incredible!!
